Fall Back - Spring Ahead

It's the time of the year for leaves to transform into warm colors and quickly disappear to the ground. It leaves trees looking bare and barely alive. All too quickly, the branches become covered in snow while we brace for winter. The changing of seasons is a phenomenon we can count on, and even have it predicted on calendars. Daylight Savings Time triggers the flip flop cycle of turning clocks back an hour and pushing them forward an hour. Fall Back, Spring Ahead. For a few days, our bodies seem confused as we try to adjust to the new schedule of day and night.

Sometimes, our lives are like the changing of the seasons. Good times give way to not-so-good days. Yet, we can be hopeful in stormy seasons that "this too shall pass." But, sometimes, life seems off schedule, like our clocks just skipped time. Circumstances take us by surprise, and we have to adjust to a new reality. Be encouraged, that no matter what season life is displaying for you, God is never taken by surprise. He is the only constant in our life. He alone is Truth. He is our firm foundation. He is the Bright and Morning Star.

In all seasons, look to Jesus for guidance. He never leaves or forsakes us. He is always right on time.

The 2018 Theme is Upward. Inward. Outward.

Each year at BCC, we ask Jesus to help us focus on becoming more like Him. One of the ways we do this is by having a theme to guide the year. In past years, the themes have provided a wonderful common goal for everyone at BCC. We have fun creating visual reminders, banners, and props. This year's theme is Upward. Inward. Outward. The scripture reference is Matthew 22:37-39. When someone asked Jesus what is the greatest commandment of all. He answered, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.…

He answered, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

From that scripture, we can know that it is critical to put God first in everything. He loves us with a perfect, life-changing love. He sacrificed everything to demonstrate His love for us. When we love God with all of our heart, souls, and mind, we will be transformed from the inside out! We will no longer be chasing after cheap imitations of love, acceptance, and belonging. We will understand how deeply we are loved and how valuable our lives are. When we receive that transforming identity through Jesus, we love ourselves with an honest, pure love. We see the true value of our lives and our purpose in living. We were created to look like Jesus, and to share the Kingdom of heaven with the world!!

The natural expression of receiving God's love and loving our selves will be a life that is motivated by love itself. Loving others with the love of Jesus becomes an automatic habit, rather than an effort. But, if we do not live from the place of relationship with God first, then the rest of our lives will be plagued with constant strife, chaos, rejection, and conflict. We will reach for substitutions for peace and comfort. The substitutions become addictions, bad relationships, co-dependency, and self hate.

In 2018, join us at BCC as we pursue God in a personal, loving way. Join us as we aim to LIVE and LOVE UPWARD to our Father, which will lead us to an accurate and pure LOVE for ourselves INWARD, and we will grow more loving and free to LIVE and LOVE others OUTWARD.

Fast Food Fast

This Lenten season, I asked the Lord to show me something my family could do together, for a spiritual fast. He gave me the Fast Food Fast. For 40 days, we are to eat only what we prepare at home, or occasionally go to a sit-down meal at a restaurant. For my family, this is a tall order. We are on-the-go like most families these days. The pace of life has somehow picked up to the point where an evening meal together is more like a special event than a daily occurrence.

Growing up, the dinner table was a sacred tradition. Being absent from the table meant something very important (and pre-approved) was going on. In fulfilling my role as family meal provider (which formerly meant Drive-thru combo meals), I have tried to plan ahead with crockpot recipes. Unfortunately, they just do not seem to turn out like the Pinterest or Facebook pictures imply. But, my family politely chokes down what I have prepared, from wherever we toted the inconvenient crockpot and paper plates.

This exercise in discipline has allowed me to reflect on the spiritual concept of pursuing the genuine, versus the first thing that tastes good. While my family has put junk food aside for a short time, it has reminded me to live deliberately. In other words, I must pursue what is true and lasting over what is quick and potentially unhealthy for me.

2 Timothy 4:3-5 (MSG) “You’re going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages. “

I encourage you to take some time to examine your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Do you take the time for genuine relationship and intimacy with him? Or, do you want a quick drive-thru experience for food that eventually will not sustain you?

Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”

As individuals, we all have unique likes and dislikes that shape our experiences and pursuits. We repeat things we like, and we avoid things we dislike. In our effort to offer diverse worship experiences, BCC offers 2 different weekly services.

The Tuesday night “King’s Café” service begins at 7pm. The purpose of this midweek service is to provide people an opportunity to worship the Lord in a contemporary setting, receive Biblical instruction, and partake in communion on a regular basis. The praise band will lead a time of praise and worship with an upbeat atmosphere. Pastor Deanna will lead these services to share messages of hope and encouragement in Kingdom Living.

Friday nights bring a high-energy night of praise, preaching, and prayer. Pastor Bob will continue to bring hard-hitting life lessons and challenge us to look to Jesus for life-changing experiences and direction. The praise team leads BCC in passionate praise and worship music during our time in “The Shelter.”

Other activities at BCC include the annual Lamb Jam Music Fest, a day-long free event that brings hundreds of people to hear Christian Rock bands, enjoy free food, and play on giant inflatable rides.

Our prayer is that you experience God and His awesome love, regardless of your preference in music, preaching style, or coffee flavor. We strive to show you God’s love much louder than we tell you of it.

God Bless You,

Pastors Bob & Deanna Lamb

Law or Grace

Romans 7:5

For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.

The law brings death.

Romans 7:5

For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.

The law brings death.

Romans 6:6-14 (ESV)
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

So its not the law that frees us from sin, but verse 14 says grace frees us. But we are humans and we sill sin, yes, and that is where Grace overcomes or should I say has overcome. Jesus died so grace would allow us to fellowship with the Father. This is why Galatians 5:16-18 (ESV) says, 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Judgement or Grace, Life or Death, the choice is yours.
